Getting a vasectomy

What is a vasectomy?

A vasectomy is a safe, straightforward and permanent form of male contraception.

Our modern no-scalpel technique uses a precision device to seal the tubes that carry sperm, without cutting or stitches. When performed by one of our experienced doctors, the procedure is very simple, with most people returning to normal activities within a few days.

Prepare with confidence: your vasectomy day guide

Your vasectomy journey with SNIP is designed to be clear and stress-free. Preparing properly helps you feel calm, informed and ready on the day. Here’s what to expect before your procedure — because knowing what’s coming makes all the difference.

STEP ONE

Booking confirmation

You’re booked — great choice. Once your appointment is confirmed:

  • You’ll receive a confirmation email with your appointment details
  • A pre-visit checklist will help you prepare with ease
  • You’ll be sent links to our information videos, which are essential viewing

Top tip: Double-check your contact details so we can send you helpful reminders before your appointment.

STEP TWO

Getting ready for the big day

How to prepare the day before and the morning of your vasectomy:

  • Eat and drink as normal: No fasting required. Have your usual breakfast.
  • Shave in advance: Shave the scrotal area 2–3 days before your procedure to reduce infection risk. Please don’t shave on the day itself.
  • Wear supportive underwear: Close-fitting (or even two pairs) helps provide comfort afterwards – supportive, not tight.
  • Medication check: We’ll ask about any medications you’re taking when you book. If anything needs discussion, our team will be in touch.
  • Take it easy: Avoid strenuous activity on the day — save the heavy lifting for later in the week.
STEP THREE

What to bring on the day

  • Payment details (if not already arranged)
  • Comfortable clothing with supportive underwear
