Medication options to help you feel calmer

We offer two optional supports. Depending on your comfort level and clinical needs you can choose to use one option or use both:

Temazepam
(Oral tablet – mild sedative) – $35

Temazepam is taken approximately two hours before your procedure and may help to:

  • Ease anxiety and nervous tension
  • Promote relaxation
  • Make the lead-up to your appointment feel more manageable

Temazepam must be prescribed at least one week before your appointment and cannot be supplied on the day. Instructions must be followed carefully, and you’ll need someone to drive you to and from the clinic.

Penthrox
(Inhaled analgesic – “green whistle”) – $190

Penthrox is a fast-acting inhaler used during the procedure. It can:

  • Provide rapid calming effects within seconds
  • Reduce pain sensitivity, particularly during local anaesthetic injections
  • Give you control, as you administer it yourself as needed
  • Wear off quickly with no lasting effects

  • Used: Before the procedure
  • How it works: Oral sedative tablet
  • Main benefit: Helps settle nerves in advance
  • Driver required: Yes
  • Best for: Anxiety leading up to the appointment
Penthrox
  • Used: During the procedure
  • How it works: Inhaled calming analgesic
  • Main benefit: Reduces anxiety and discomfort in real time
  • Driver required: No — you can drive around 30 minutes afterwards
  • Best for: Anxiety or pain during the procedure itself
