Vasectomy is a minor procedure with low levels of complications. If they do occur, we are here to assist you, all included in your vasectomy care. The possible complications with vasectomy are:
Infection
Even with our sterile, minimally invasive technique, bugs can still get in. There is about a 1-2% risk of infection after a vasectomy. Typically, this presents as increasing discomfort a few days after the procedure. If this occurs, it can generally be treated quickly with antibiotics. It is rare for an infection to be severe enough to require hospital treatment with intravenous antibiotics.
Haematoma
Our surgeons will ensure that there is no sign of bleeding at the end of the procedure. However, about 1% of the time (especially if you don’t take it easy), a blood vessel can pop inside the scrotum after the event. This can lead to bleeding in the area, resulting in swelling and discomfort. This is usually managed by pain relief and rest. With time, the discomfort will subside, although the swelling can take up to six weeks to resolve.
Post-Vasectomy Pain Syndrome
Normally, you will have discomfort after your vasectomy for a few days to a week and then return to feeling completely normal. However, in around 1% of the time, men can develop an aching feeling in their testicles that continues long term after the procedure (sometimes only starting up months after they have had the snip and could persist for months or years). If this happens, there are several treatment options available to return you to being symptom-free. At SNIP, we will work with you to solve your post-vasectomy pain, all included in your “one price–guarantee” for your vasectomy.
